"Casa Monte Bella" - Bergamasco, Piedmont, Italy

Casa Monte Bella is a beautiful 5-storey house (including cellar and attic) that has recently been completely renovated to an extremely high standard to create a wonderfully luxurious holiday home that sleeps 8 people in 3 double beds and 2 single beds. The house is south facing and enjoys wonderful views over the fields and hills beyond. It is in a very private location on the edge of the quaint village of Bergamasco (it's the house in the centre of this picture): Bergamasco has a couple of Trattorias, various food shops, numerous churches and an old castle. The house has a private walled garden with a pool and a portico for much-needed shade for those long relaxing lunches.

Bergamasco is in the Barolo red wine and truffle region. The nearest towns are Nizza Monferrato and Alessandria (10-15 minutes away) where you can enjoy wonderful food, wine and shopping. It is 25 minutes away (over the wine hills) from the historic town of Aqui Terme which has a Roman spa, good shopping and our favourite restaurant - La Curia - which has wonderful brick-vaulted ceilings for wintertime dining and a courtyard for summertime dining, not to mention the exquisite food. Acqui Terme also has a gym and spa for public use. There are also other fantastic restaurants set in the hills around the area that are easy to find.

The international airports that service our area are Genoa (50 minutes away), Milan Linate or Malpensa (1.5 hours) or Turin (1 hour). The house is centrally located between the three main cities and allows for easy travelling to the Italian Lakes, the Alps, the Italian Riveria, Milan and Turin. Famous Portofino is easily reachable in 1.5 hours on fantastic uncrowded roads through the many hills of Liguria. There are also several golf courses in the area, horse trekking and bike riding. The Aosta National Park is 1.5 hours away.

The house is an impressive building built almost 100 years ago with accommodation on 3 floors. The ground floor has a huge kitchen/dining room with a log burner and two sets of doors that open onto the patio and into the garden. The kitchen has all the essentials, dishwasher, fridge freezer, large double oven with 6-ring gas hob, microwave and plenty of marble workspace. There is a more formal lounge - with a second log burner - and a downstairs WC also on this floor, plus a laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer.

The 1st floor has two very large double bedrooms (one with a large balcony looking over the garden, pool and views beyond, and one with an original brick-vaulted ceiling) and a single room with twin beds. Both double rooms have modern en-suite facilities. The single room shares the facilities with the large double bedroom with balcony.

The 2nd floor comprises a large double bedroom with dual aspect to the South and West, with en-suite facilities. There are other rooms on this floor which are locked and not included in the rental. In addition to the 3 storeys of accommodation there is a wonderful brick-vaulted cellar, and an attic area where there is a wonderful balcony enjoying splendid views.
